Teens Love Yoga

Teenagers have faced increased levels of adversity over the past few years and mindfulness has been cited as one of the ways to cultivate resilience in the face of life’s challenges. By targeting the teenagers of Hyattsville, we strive to pull them into the fold of mindfulness, highlighting the importance of wellness early on in their lives.

Our passion for adolescents has contributed successfully to Love Yoga Studio providing teen workshops and engaged with our Hyattsville community for events and private yoga sessions, in additional to running Teen YTT (a vocational and wellness program) this Spring Break!

Yoga Programs for Teens

  • Teen YTT

Teen YTT is a week long, 30-hour, yoga teacher training. This program combines the wellness benefits of yoga with the benefits of vocational training for adolescents. The Teen YTT program is a time for teens to learn how to teach yoga poses, breath techniques, and meditation. The training will include a professional development workshop to develop a yoga resume, cover letter, and interview demo. Love Yoga Studio will also provide a professional reference as participants will co-teach one community class as a part of graduation. Graduation requirements include attendance for all 30 hours and co-teaching a Love Yoga Studio community class. There will be a graduation lunch at Love Yoga Studio on Saturday.

  • Dear Teen Yogi

Dear Teen Yogi is a time for mindful writing and movement, designed to promote introspection, self-awareness and mindfulness practices. The class starts off with a body scan, followed by 5 minutes of stretching. Next the mindfulness teacher will read aloud a letter and then offer journaling prompts for the teens to reflect and respond to. This is followed by yoga stations and guided meditation, ending with a restful moment of silence.

  • Embodied Empowerment

Embodied Empowerment is a workshop series for teen parents, designed to foster increased self-awareness and actualization through the practice of yoga. This program has both a family component as well as a parent-specific component.
